Don't go fishing for marlin in Whitefish Lake

At least 99% of all people know that if you want to catch marlin, you don't go to Whitefish Lake to do it.  People with common sense and even some without.  The vast majority of the people in the country also know that if you want to go hunting for deer or elk that you don't go some place like downtown LA or Chicago to do it.  And there are people who will tell you that it is foolish yet, in a matter of speaking, are doing those very things.

I have a friend who dates regularly, not me, other girls.  It never seems to work out then he starts asking me why he can't find a good Christian girl to date, somebody that is looking for commitment.  Actually I have a few male friends like that.  Why they come to me I don't get, I can't say what I want to for a couple of reasons so I just listen.  To start with, I don't counsel men due to the fact that I am a woman and the bible does say that men should be going to other men for counsel, not women.  Also the only way that my point would actually get into their skulls is if I beat them senseless with a baseball bat which I really do think that God would frown down on.  The extend of my counsel is to make an appointment to talk to Josh (one of our pastors).  He's smart and would be able to get the point across without the use of a baseball bat.  However, none of them has done that.

The reasons, that I will be more than happy to share here, are rather simple.  You don't fish for marlin in Whitefish Lake, you don't hunt for deer in Chicago, and you don't look for a good Christian wife in a strip joint.  The best place to find what you are looking for is to go to where they are.  If you are looking for a spouse that loves God, then get ye rear end to church!  How do I know that these individuals aren't going to church?  Cause the first thing they always say when they see me is "I plan on getting back to church, I just haven't had the time (or whatever excuse they have)".  Like I really care to hear their excuses.  Don't get me wrong, I am not saying to go to church to pick up a spouse.  In fact you should be going to church to better build your relationship with God and put the whole spousal relationship thing to Him.

Another thing that I have always been told is that we attract what we are, not always what we want.  So before even considering dating, it would be a wise idea to become what you are looking for.  If you want a solid Christian  spouse, then become a solid Christian.  Ruth was faithful and worked in the fields and God brought Boaz to her and blessed her with a wonderful God fearing man.

And lastly, don't rush it.  When you are trusting in God, you let Him bring your spouse to you.  In the meantime, serve Him.  Volunteer at your church, get to know the people that are at the service that you are at.  Love God.  And when God does bring somebody to you, love and respect them the way that the bible tells you to.

That's it for my rant.  And don't think that I have never done this, going about chasing what I want in a manner that is obviously wrong.  I just finally got smart enough to see that I was a mouse running around in my wheel and decided to jump off of that stupid wheel.

Planting Trees in the Deli

Sounds crazy but that is what I am now doing.  It's a leap of faith as far as finances go but I am excited about it.  It's important to bring God glory in everything that we do.  Now where do the trees come in?  This is the fun part.

A lot of people that want to do big things for God tend to forget how things do start with the small things and being obedient in those small things.  We are watching for our forest without planting the trees needed to make the forest.  A forest is a lot of trees and trees start as seeds put in the ground.  David slew Goliath because he obeyed Jesse in delivering cheese and bread to his brothers that were in Saul's army.  David wasn't even in the service, he was still a shepherd for his dad.  Read through the new testament and really take to heart the pain and hardships that the greats had to go through.  A lot of those great things that took place were because they were obedient in the small things.

So I am focusing on the small miracles, being excited and happy to be at work, to have integrity and honesty in the workplace, to make my customers glad that they came in and had me serve them.  My pastor told us about a man that attempted suicide by jumping off of the Golden Gate Bridge and the whole time traveling there (using public transportation) he told himself that if anybody notices him, smiles, just acknowledges him that he wouldn't go through with it.  Nobody did and the man jumped.  He survived but that story haunts me.  Any one of my customers could be just like that man.  For a lot of people, we are the only bible that they will read, I want for them to read of God's Love through me.  The best way to do that is to love them as well.

On another note, my baby girl is going to be starting high school soon.  Not sure if I'm ready for it.  So far though, my biggest issue with her is cleaning up after herself and cleaning her room.  Considering what we could be going though, I am very grateful.
